Chapter 9: Plans of Domination

The colossal business room inside the Proto NSA Department was filled with messengers. Every now and then, a few people would come and leave the room with new assignments. Mak, the Military Action Planner Alpha Officer (also called as MAPA Officer for short), sat behind the large oak table before him. His pliant black leather chair creaked whenever he shifted his weight with anxiety.

"Your coffee, sir," an attendant slowly bowed her head as she brought the drink to her superior.

Nodding without any smile, he continued staring straight at the towering door in front of him. It looked as if he was expecting someone... His dark expression glowed in the soft Day Light bulb (a new type of light bulb that produced natural sunlight) that was shining upon his face.

Half an hour later, a doctor with brand new white lab coat rushed in without bothering to knock. People jumped aside to avoid being knocked down. His aged face creased with worries.

"About time you got your ass here, Nick," Mak reprimanded angrily. "I've been waiting for you for ages. What the hell happened? Why are you so late?"

Breathing hard, the frail-looking man trembled before the mighty power. "I... I am terribly sorry, sir. My... my hover car won't start..." He then grinned sheepishly with lips twitching.

"Get a better car, you moron!"

Head bowing low, the poor scientist agreed silently.

"What've you got? You said you have something utterly important that you need to inform to me?"

Looking up with a face of excitement and a slight consternation, Nick gulped once before speaking. "We've just got an update about Unit One's physical and chemical progressions. As we followed the special X-RPV strand of his DNA coding samples, we found out that there's a... slight... miscalculation."

"What do you mean by slight 'miscalculation'? Didn't I already provide you guys with the state-of-the-art equipment to create this beast of destruction?" Mak rolled his eyes impatiently. He grabbed the cup beside him and chugged down the coffee in one gulp.

"Well, yes. But you see this is our first experiment using the new Engineering Tube that is filled with product TX-V fluid. So, my guess is that there will HAVE to be some flaws somewhere along this mammoth project."

"Spare me the technical terms, Nick. Just tell me, what kind of problems that you have found in Unit One?"

Nick sighed, as he looked at the notes held in his quivering hands. "Uh... well... we've found this mutation agent inside his body, and we didn't remove it since we didn't know about it before hand."

Frowning, Mak leaned forward and supported his chin with his hands. His elbows were on the desk. "And what will this mutation agent do to him? Kill him?"

"No, no," Nick shook his head quickly. "The truth is, that we don't even know what it will do to Jake Zero Zero One. We don't know if that agent will increase his strength, or diminish it. His physical appearance may change, and his whole self... Who knows?" He shrugged.

A sly smile stole onto Mak's face, as he began to chuckle. Leaning back into his comfy chair, he laughed. "You know, Nick. The moment that we've kept this little project away from the President's ears, I just know that we've made a big mistake..."

Looking shocked, the doctor stuttered: "But... but I think this is a great project. It gives us a chance to explore genetic engineering technique."

"Really? It's not so great anymore when Jake refused to follow our commands. The whole thing is a screw up if he won't listen to us. The point of this whole scheme is to bring power into our hands. Do you see any power? No." Mak sighed as he closed his eyes. Rubbing his temples, he continued: "Does he still have the silver collar around his neck?"

"No, sir. I'm afraid that he has destroyed it when he demolished the compound."

"Great. Now we've lost our only lead to his whereabouts. Who knows what kind of weapons he can acquire out there in the space? He can obliterate this goddamn planet in an instant if he wants to."

Nick's shoulders slumped as sudden tiredness swashed over him. "Right now, I am more worried about his DNA. It might change pretty soon. I cannot tell the precise time."

"Well, that's YOUR problem, doc. I'm worried about our plan. The President is getting suspicious, and we may need to have to find a way to silence him soon. I won't let anyone ruin my years of careful design," Mak got up from his seat and began to pace around. Pressing a button on the control panel on his left wrist, he summoned a guard into the room.

"Yes, sir?" The man stood firmly on the ground, chest out and full of pride and confidence.

"I want you to send out all the available fleet we have. Check the Starflyer's registration codes and relay them to all the Federation planets and station posts. Tell them that if they encounter the ship, they must stop it from running away again."

Nodding, the soldier said: "As you wish, sir. But... won't the President interrogate about the sudden disappearance of his military forces?"

Taking in a deep breath, the MAPA Officer gritted his teeth. "The President won't notice a thing. I'll deal with him myself, personally. Now get moving."

Saluting once, the man marched off with his new edict.

Turning his attention to the doctor, Mak smiled. "Continue on with your job."

Before Nick could leave, he heard the sentence: "And don't run away. If I catch you running away from me, I swear to god, I'll kill you." Gulping, he hurried out of the room.

With a wave of his hand, all the rest of the menials left the room. Before the broad brown door could close on itself, in came another person, a female. Her eyes gleamed with great egoism. Her long, dark hair flapped behind her head.

"Ahh, Naiomi Goden. How nice of you to join me. Please, sit," Mak grinned as he gestured to one of the chairs in front of his desk. He took his seat opposite of her.

Sitting down, Naiomi groaned with tiredness. Trying to handle such a dangerous teen was way out of her abilities.

"So, what've you got?"

Looking up into Mak's eyes, she said: "Aside from detonating my car, sacrificing a few of your minions, and a few bruising and scratching, nothing much. The kid is tough. He didn't give me a lot of data about himself. I was surprised at first when I've obtained your message that he is the one who will lead us to glory. Too bad I didn't stop him earlier."

Sighing, he tilted his head. "I don't care about his personal info. I got all of it right here. What I want to know is do you know where he is right now? Or maybe where he is planning to go to?"

Naiomi shrugged. "That's all I've got so far. Well, that's what you get when you are undercover. Most of the time you can't get the stuff that you need."

"Did you find anything useful in the Tyr Department? I heard that they are experimenting a new weapon that might become useful for us," Mak continued asking his associate about all the important details that he needed to know in order for his grand plan to work.

She took out a cigarette and lit it with a lighter. Blowing out a few puffs of charcoal colored smokes, she replied: "Nothing. Nothing at all. Zip, none, totally, absolutely nothing. I hacked into their computer mainframe, but there are no records about that new weapon you are talking about. Are you sure the credibility of the information is good?"

"How do I know? I just follow whatever leads that I got. We can start the invasion of the Dome World pretty soon. These cities are easy to bring down, such as this one - Manotropolist. And once we've destroyed the Center Com, the outside reinforcements beyond the planet won't be able to receive anymore orders and thus, won't be able to come and aid these pests that we are going to kill and dominate."

"Sounds difficult to me, Mak," Naiomi gave him a smirk. "The Center Com will be heavily guarded. Your lust for global command is starting to get into your head."

Ignoring her tease, he proceeded telling her more of his strategy. "That's why we need Jake. He alone as enough power to do the job. But now he's gone. We don't know where he went. So, we need to resort to that gun information that I've gotten few weeks ago."

"What makes you think the Tyr Department can have such a powerful weapon, strong enough to shatter the Deflective Shield of the First Layer of the Six Layer Defense System? Center Com has enough armor to withstand ten nuclear bombs along with enough firepower to eradicate all of our military forces combined together."

Mak heaved a deep breath. "Because according to my spy intelligence, the Tyr Company, who has been providing the Department artilleries for over a decade, is going to make a shipload of guns puissant enough to end the Resistance on the planet Efrotungon. The war on that big ball of dirt has gone on far too long. They need to end it as soon as possible."

Standing up, Naiomi stretched. Mak admired her strength, as well as her look and her wonderful body. He would love to have her all to himself. Oh yeah.

Looking down at him, she snorted. "All right. I'll try my best to find out more about this 'holy' weapon of yours, but I can't promise anything." She turned and began to leave.

"Oh! Naiomi, my love?" he called out.

Turning her head toward his voice, she waited for further sentences.

"Would you care to have dinner with me tonight? At my house? You know, have some wine, get to know each other more... stuff like that?"

Laughing, she answered: "All right. But be sure your rod-ent is ready. You're gonna have a night of your lifetime."

He chuckled. God, she was magnificent...

Systems continued shutting down one by one as the Starflyer began to spin out of control. The gravitational mechanism (or G.M) was on for one second and then off for the next. Wriik and I were literally flying around the ship, crashing into panels and consoles uncontrollably. Dents were made by my body, and holes were made by Wriik's spikes along his back.

"Can you at least stabilize the gravity thing?" I shouted over the blaring noises. My head was aching, and my ears felt as if they were going to fall off. My whole body was not feeling very well. Strange pains appearing here and there every now and then. I was puzzled at my condition.

Gripping onto a metal pipe overhead, the blue alien looked at me with his large green eyes. "You think that I am good at EVERYTHING? I don't know how! This isn't exactly my ship, mind you!" His long, tendrils on his forearms were shaking with fear.

"God! Are we going to die?" I yelled as I grabbed the chair beside me to prevent from drifting off again. The G.M went completely offline when a big shower of sparks exploded into our compartment. The ship was shaking aggressively. I didn't want to die, at least, not until I had seen that my hands destroyed the humans.

"It has better not come to that!" Wriik said as he slowly moved toward the center controls.

He pressed and smashed a few keys, but nothing was responding. The vessel was plunging deeper into the vast, outlandish wormhole. Through the small slits between the plate of armors, I could see rainbow-like colored lights flashing outside. Though it was unbelievably quiet. All the sounds that I had heard were coming from the Starflyer itself. It was coming apart.

Supplies of miscellaneous kinds were falling and striking onto the metal planks. Choking black smokes arouse from nowhere, and slowly picking off the oxygen supplies that we were so desperately needed.

"Can you at least bring the oxygen generator back online?" I asked when I began to feel harder and harder to breathe.

"If I can, I would have already done so!"

We screamed as another cruel wave of shudder roared through the craft. Computers were now sounding every kind of alarms at us. Wriik had gotten so annoyed by them that he bent down and ripped out a chunk of wires from underneath the panels. Small yellowish embers came flying out and bounced across the floor. The alert clamors stopped immediately. The whole place was more placid. I sighed a relief. Yet, the condition of my body worsened. I began to feel cramps on my legs and arms. I felt like vomiting.

I was going to say something to Wriik, when the back of the ship exploded. The shock wave was so intense, that both of us were knocked out flat. Screens shattered and debris pummeled on us, the Starflyer continued its ever-lasting journey through the protracted space contortion, while it was threatening to be ripped apart...
